Statement on Iran

Read a “Joint Experts’ Statement on IranThis is an Adobe Acrobat pdf document. released by the 3D Security Initiative from Eastern Mennonite University and other organization. The statement seeks to clear away some of the myths that have driven failed policies of the past and to outline a strategy for dealing successfully with Iran in the future. The 218th General Assembly (2008) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) action on Iran expresses support for “a peaceful, diplomatic means to resolve the tensions developing as a result of Iran’s pursuit of its nuclear program, between the United States and Iran.” Learn about Presbyterians at work in Iran and more.

Iraqi refugees

Refugees International calls the situation of Iraqi refugees “one of the largest humanitarian and displacement crises in the world.” Millions of Iraqis have fled their homes — either for safer locations within Iraq, or to other countries in the region — and are living in increasingly desperate circumstances. The Presbyterian Peacemaking Program was created in 1980 by action of the General Assembly of the former United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America adopted Peacemaking: The Believers' Calling.

The work of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program is guided by three affirmations outlined in Peacemaking: The Believers' Calling:

  • The church is faithful to Jesus Christ when it is engaged in peacemaking.
  • The church is obedient to Jesus Christ when it nurtures and equips God's people as peacemakers.
  • The church bears witness to Christ when it nurtures the moral life of the nation for the sake of peace in the world.

Our work

For more than twenty-five years, the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program has been helping the church grow in its witness and commitment to peacemaking. We have developed a variety of resources, events and programs that assists the church as it responds to the gospel calling to "Seek peace and pursue it." Our work includes:
